BCSuperheroes in the news! (kinda…)

Posted on by bporwit

Check this out!  A student journalist did a piece on the therapy animal program (PAWS) that happens in the Roen Room at Boynton Health Service, where the Breast Cancer Superheroes are now displayed:

They are not officially “in the story” – but hey they make a great backdrop!

(I wanna be there – don’t you?)

Superheroes at Boynton Health Service 1/31/2014

Wow, what a night! I hardly have words to describe, how fantastic it was to work with Suzi Kazal Forst and watch her discover her inner gifts and her purpose in the process of finding her superhero self. Her Honorable and Joyful Lady Justice ( and her evil fighting sidekick, the Holy Goose!) were unveiled at Boynton Health Service at the U of M on January 31, 2014, in a room full of wonder, celebration and awe.

We were so lucky to be joined by Wonder Woman Katy Tessman Stanoch, Radiation Diva Jill Stanton, and Phoenix Rising Lisa Dahlseid, as they welcomed their sister into the hall of heroes.

Our supermodels will be traveling to the Breast Cancer Awareness Association’s Breast Party in Town on Feb. 28 to spread the word of inspiration and encouragement to more women and families there. More info at www.bcaamn.org.

Super Creativity: Give to the Max!

Alchemist painting with vine and swirl background by MeganThis week, we are sharing some of the super creativity of visitors to the Breast Cancer Superhero Portrait Project: We got a lot of wonderful visions of amazingly different backgrounds for Jei Olson: The Alchemist. Today’s offering is a lovely background by Megan. Thank you Megan!

Also, here’s what one visitor said about the project:

“I am deeply struck by how these women see themselves on the inside. These paintings clearly show the power of not just survival, but what it means to thrive in the face of this horrible disease. The paintings show that they are still whole, inside and out.” Jen K., Fox Egg Gallery, October 2013.

Also, here’s what one visitor said about the project:

“I love the concept of breast cancer superheroes! My best friend brought me a “Xena” action figure the night before my mastectomy. She saw the “warrior princess” in me. I’m now a 2-year survivor, but I prefer to call myself a badaxx cancer warrior. Kudos to you!” – Britt Dougall, Fox Egg Gallery, October 2013.
