… I need to tell you about Suzi. Suzi came to me in 2013 after a coworker saw Wonder Woman Katy in my studio and said “there’s someone you need to meet” — soon after I got an email from Suzi saying —- “…I heard about your project, and it all makes sense now – I was meant to be a superhero!”
I can’t agree more.
In 2010, at the age of 36, Suzi got a “feeling” one day that she should go in for a checkup (she had’t had one since her 3 year old twins were born).
The doctor who saw Suzi told her that she likely had inflammatory breast disease.
“The doctor said ‘disease,’ but I ran home and checked with Dr Google and right away, I knew,” she said. “I knew.”
All cancer is scary, but Suzi’s is the kind that is terrifying–aggressive and moving quickly. She began six months of chemotherapy almost immediately so the cancer could be tamed enough to be surgically removed in a double mastectomy. A hysterectomy and seven reconstruction and revision surgeries have followed.
“I prayed for peace one day, not for healing or a cure and I woke up and I wasn’t scared any more,” she said. “I prayed for peace and I got it. I had what I needed to get through it.”
